- First SDP election under CSJ's leadership after oustering former mentor Chiam See Tong from SDP.

- PAP 12,546 (65.14%)
- SDP 6,713 (34.86%)

- NOT ELECTED

The SDP's first general election under Chee's leadership in 1997 proved to be a major setback for the party as they failed to win any seats in Parliament.

Ling How Doong and Cheo Chai Chen were both defeated in their bids to be re-elected as MPs.

And Chee lost the high-profile contest in MacPherson to Matthias Yao by 6,713 (34.86%) votes to 12,546 (65.14%).

Meanwhile, Chiam See Tong was re-elected as the MP for Potong Pasir, representing his new party.

2001 General Election (Jurong)
- Heckled then-PM Goh Chok Tong while campaigning

- PAP 84,472 (79.75%)
- SDP 21,511 (20.25%)

- NOT ELECTED

At the 2001 general election, Chee stood as one of the SDP's candidates in the Jurong Group Representation Constituency.

The SDP's team lost to the PAP team by 20.25% of the votes to 79.75%.

The SDP's candidates were also unsuccessful in all the other constituencies in which they stood.

During the run-up to the election, Chee captured national media attention when he came across then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong while campaigning at a hawker centre, and used a megaphone to ask him: "Where is the S$18 billion that you have lent to (Indonesian President) Suharto?" The PAP took Chee to task for this, claiming that any accusation that Parliament had been misled about an alleged loan to Suharto was untrue, and demanding that he either apologise or face a defamation lawsuit. Chee apologised a day later, but later retracted his apology.

- Chee did not participate in elections as he was barred from standing.

- PAP 48,773 (60.10%)
- SDP 32,406 (39.90%)

(DTCL Note: This was actually SDP's best result so far - and it was achieved WITHOUT Chee in the team. #irony #notfatedtowin)

- NOT ELECTED

At the 2011 general election, Chee led the SDP into the contest. Although he was barred from standing, he assembled a team of individuals to stand as candidates. The party had envisioned its best team to stand in Holland-Bukit Timah GRC.

Its candidates included Tan Jee Say, a former civil servant, Ang Yong Guan, a doctor, Vincent Wijeysingha, a social worker, as well as Michelle Lee, a former employee of the Monetary Authority of Singapore. The team lost, attaining only 39.92% of the vote.

Lame excuse from Chee Soon Juan

#NowIsTheTime to be re-LIAR-able

By Fabrication sAbout The PAP FB page

Singapore Democratic Party (SDP) had prematurely put up several banner in violation of election law and had to take them down.

It was a mistake, just admit so. But Chee Soon Juan 徐顺全 has to resort to giving lame excuses on the first day of the BE, that they were only "trying it out". He wants Singaporeans to believe that the entire SDP does not own a measuring tape.

Chose wisely Bukit Batok

The By-Election date for Bukit Batok has been announced today by Elections Department (ELD). Polling day will be on 7 May 2016. (Read more here).

But who will Bukit Batok residents vote for?

Here's a comparison of the two candidates that have step forward so far.

By 'Your Views' Facebook page:
Residents of Bukit Batok, who will you choose?
A hard working candidate who has been serving you for the past 16 years OR
a jobless bum who has been going around badmouthing Singapore?

We've all seen in AHPETC what happens to a Town Council in less than one term when there is super-duper cock-ups in managing public monies less than stellar performance by the elected WP MPs.

(And please don't believe that bullshit that PAP is out fixing WP/AHPETC. Remember, Chiam See Tong managed Potong Pasir from 1984 to 2011 without any problems. And don't just take our word for it, ask any Accountant worth their salt what they think of the AHPETC case.)

This By-Election is not as straightforward or simplistic as some may want BB residents to think.

Some have said online "It doesn't matter who wins 'cos PAP is already the govt. So just vote Chee lor. More opposition better mah".

Yes, more diverse voices in Parliament, bringing in different viewpoints and viable alternatives is good for Singapore as a whole.

BUT the question here is "Is Chee Soon Juan the kind of person that should be in Parliament?"

Will Chee do more damage than good, not just to Singapore as a nation, but to Bukit Batok residents in their daily lives?

Don't forget, Chee Soon Juan / SDP were so desperate to get into Parliament that they are willing to sacrifice sell-out their voters' welfare in exchange for a seat in Parliament.
"In the spirit of compromise and cooperation, we would like to propose that our two parties run a joint campaign and field one candidate from the SDP.
If victorious, the SDP candidate will enter Parliament and the WP will run the Punggol East Town Council."
Press statement by SDP, 11 Jan 2013 (Punggol East By-Election 2013)
Amazing bullshit logic right? Chee Soon Juan / SDP expects WP to do all the Town Council sai-kang (hardwork) and SDP will take the "glory" from a Parliament seat. Even a primary school kid will recognize this as a very unfair arrangement.

In fact Chee is so bad that even his one-time mentor, Chiam See Tong, condemns does not support him anymore.

And that was what Chiam said of Chee in 1995.

Fast-forward to 2015, we have Jermery Chen, a former SDP Party member who drafted policy proposals for SDP, stating this on his blog.

Two eerily similar accounts of Chee's character, separated by 20 years and given by persons who were close to Chee / SDP. That really says a lot about Chee's true nature.

Guess the time  during GE2015 when Chee Soon Juan said "Reputation is temporary, CHARACTER IS PERMANENT", he was really, really telling the truth.

For Bukit Batok residents, much of their daily lives can be adversely affected. Much is at stake in this By-Election.

There's no such thing as a inconsequential election result. Every vote counts.

And whether it is politically correct to say so or not, here is the harsh reality - BB residents will live with the consequences of their choice, for better or for worse. (Ask the residents under AHPETC if they are happy with how their monies are being managed by AHPETC.)

As Morpheus from the Matrix puts it, "... After this, there is no turning back."
(well, at least until the next General Elections, or if the MP resigns....again... LOL )

Think carefully.

Examine each candidate's history and character as if you were hiring a Manager or Director for your business. Do you dare trust this person?

Chose wisely.

Would you support a person who continually goes overseas and condemns Singapore?

Singapore is not perfect. We have our own set of problems, warts and all.

But nevertheless, it is OUR COUNTRY and we should be working together as fellow Singaporeans to SOLVE OUR OWN PROBLEMS to ensure Singapore continues to prosper and our lives continue to get better with each generation.

But what happens when you get a person who continually goes OUT OF THE COUNTRY and attack Singapore's interests?

Would such an action do Singapore more harm or good?

Is it healthy move to involve foreigners in our domestic politics? How do we know that these foreigners don't have another agenda of their own?

Put it this way - which other country's politician(s) have you heard lately going out of their own country and casting all sorts of accusations in an effort to condemn their own country?

If your child goes out of your home and bad-mouths the family to outsiders and tries to get outsiders to interfere with how you manage the family as a parent, how would you feel? Angry? Sense of betrayal?

And yet this is what Chee Soon Juan has been doing to Singapore all these years.

Don't take my word for it. Watch these videos and decide for yourself if Chee's actions are in the best interest of Singapore, or he is simply acting on what is in HIS OWN best interests.

(Btw, have you ever wonder how is it that Chee can support his family WITHOUT a proper job? Even the wife is not working. So where is the money coming from to support Chee's family?)

PKMS also thinks that STR article is an unfair write-up of Dr Koh's speech

I wonder how much money Alex Tan makes off his STR website by spewling out half-truths and out-right lies to gain notoriety and readership.

There's no doubt that he is simply copying the business model of the now-defunct, The Real Singapore.  Such a sad little asshole of a person.

Anyway, here is what Dr Koh actually said in Parliament with respect to the issue of "assistance for flat-owners who have fallen on hard times."

Here's the TL;DR version which shows what Alex Tan/STR twisted for their article:
"In general, HDB will assist flat owners who are in difficulties to seek help from social support agencies by recommending that they get the job, if they are out of a job, or to provide them with temporary financial support through the SSOs.
HDB, however, is not a bank and is not able to offer personal loans to flat owners, although we can help them with restructuring their HDB mortgage loans."

Here's the full version (emphasis mine):
"Yesterday, Ms Joan Pereira asked: what assistance plans does HDB have in place with regard to mortgage payments by those in their late 40s or 50s who have been retrenched, particularly where the husband and wife both lose their jobs at the same time
My full reply to her are as follows:
The Minister of State for National Development (Dr Koh Poh Koon) (for the Minister for National Development):
Mdm Speaker, HDB has various assistance measures to help families who have fallen on hard times.
As a first step, Housing Counsellors in HDB Branches provide financial counselling and explore sustainable housing options with the flat owners, for example by subletting their spare bedrooms.
The Housing Counsellors in the Branches may also refer them to social support agencies for job placements, financial aid, for example at the Employment & Employability Institute (e2i), Social Service Offices (SSOs), and Family Service Centres (FSCs).
Flat owners who face short-term difficulties in servicing their mortgage instalments may be offered a temporary reduction or deferment of their mortgage instalments to help them with their cash flow situation.
For those who face longer term difficulties and hardship, HDB will advise them on measures such as including their working adult children as joint owners to help with the mortgage instalments.
Another long-term measure is to right-size to a flat within their means. In this situation, HDB may offer them another loan and/or interim rental housing to help with their move.
For low-income households who are unable to afford another flat, have no family support and no other housing options, HDB may offer them a public rental flat.
Ms Joan Pereira (Tanjong Pagar): Mdm Speaker, I thank the Minister of State for his reply. I have one supplementary question. Would HDB consider providing such financial help to HDB owners who have taken loans from the banks?

Dr Koh Poh Koon: Mdm Speaker, for flat owners who have financial difficulties, the banks would usually alert HDB when the flat owners start to default on their payments.
In general, HDB will assist flat owners who are in difficulties to seek help from social support agencies by recommending that they get the job, if they are out of a job, or to provide them with temporary financial support through the SSOs.
HDB, however, is not a bank and is not able to offer personal loans to flat owners, although we can help them with restructuring their HDB mortgage loans."

Chee Soon Juan - the Incorrigible Liar

Here we have more evidence of how Chee Soon Juan choses to manipulate reality to score political points.

On 21 March, Chee posted this on FB.

(As of 11 Apr, the original post seems to have been taken down with no explanation.)

Heart wrenching story isn't it?

Afterall, we all like to believe the romantic notion that in our golden years, we would all be enjoying our retirement and not working.

And Chee uses Auntie's story as an example of why he wants to get into Parliament.

But guess what... a video pops up of the same lady. And the story from her is quite different from the dire situation that Chee painted in his post.

Video Source: SG HardTruth

So who is telling the truth and who is manipulating the encounter to score political points?

No one is denying that there is poverty or that some of our elderly folks have a hard life.

But in wanting to address these issues, is it correct for Chee to be twisting people's stories for him to rile up emotions and to make a political statement?

Isn't it better to be addressing the poverty problem based on concrete facts?

If Chee, or any other parties for that matter, keeps on twisting and exaggerating such "sob stories" out of proportion, do they really think that such an approach will help those in need?

Or would likely cause more harm when people find out that these "sob stories" are highly exaggerated and become less sympathetic when they come across a genuinely needy case?

People's lives are as varied as there are colors. Just because their lives are hard or impoverished does not necessarily mean it is the fault of the government.

There are many safety nets and schemes put forward by the government to help those people in need. In fact, one of the criticisms I have is that there are too many. So much so that even social workers may not be aware of what help is available.

If Chee was genuine about helping the old lady, what sort of help did Chee offer the old lady? Or did he simply see a opportunity to twist a old lady's circumstances into ammunition against the government?

In case you come across people who need help, please do help them by referring them to the Ministry of Social and Family Development.  They have a whole range of services and schemes to help those in need.

If in doubt, simply call their hotline at 1800-222-0000 (Destitute Persons Service, Mon - Sun, 7am - 12 midnight).

Don't just take a picture and post their story on social media. It doesn't help them.

Calling the Ministry and referring them for public assistance does.

Chee Soon Juan - Mighty, Morphing, Incorrigible LIAR

So Facebook's edit history has revealed what sort of values that SDP champions.

And if you read the edit history, it seems like SDP is like its leader - simply just bending the truth outright lying to portray its leader Chee Soon Juan in a very favourable but false light.

It's one thing to be editing your posts for clarity and readability. But it is totally another thing altogether when the edits significantly changes the substance and meaning of the original text.

By Fabrications About The PAP:
"How many stories can SDP make up from 1 photo?
Edit History shows SDP changed story from "Uncle introduced Dr Chee to ALL 12 FLOORS of residents" to "Uncle introduced Dr Chee to residents" to "uncle pleasantly surprise to meet Dr Chee."
#CharacterIsPermanent.  #TrueStory Uncle say one, he is PAP supporter."

But then again, why should we be surprised? Since day 1, Chee's behavior, actions and words have always been consistent with that of an incorrigible liar. Has anything changed since?

Do you feel lucky, Punk?

Minister for Defence, Dr Ng Eng Hen shared in Parliament today on how the SAF is preparing itself to respond to terrorists attacks.

"Updated Parliament today on how the SAF will respond to the threat of terrorism on air, land and sea to protect Singaporeans. Used these two infographics."

Ng Eng Hen via Facebook

The Special Operations Task Force, drawn from the Commandos, Naval Diving Unit and assets across the Army, Navy and Air Force will be the SAF’s first responders to terror threats. - Ng Eng Hen

The SAF maintains vigilance over Singapore’s air, land and sea around the clock. - Ng Eng Hen

After I saw these two infographics, this image came to mind.

I am not trying to tease /bait /challenge any potential terrorists to come and try their luck here.

But I would like to point out that so far in our country's short history, terrorists have not had a good time.

The last time terrorists came to Singapore and tried to impose their own political agenda was in 1991, and it didn't end well for them.

SQ117, carrying 114 passengers and 11 crew members, was hijacked by 4 terrorists who claimed to be members of the Pakistan People’s Party.

The terrorists threatened to kill one hostage every 10 minutes after informed the negotiating team that they were no longer interested in communicating. This forced the authorities to act.

The Commandos stormed the plane and shot dead all four hijackers, leaving the hostages unharmed. The entire operation lasted 30 seconds.

Read more about the SQ117 Hijack here.

Update: Here is CNA's media report on Dr Ng Eng Hen's statement in Parliament.

SAF to beef up firepower, personnel for fight against terrorism: MINDEF
The Ministry of Defence will also continue its approach of steady investments that have built up a modern, capable armed forces, says Minister Ng Eng Hen.By Justin Ong  Posted 07 Apr 2016 14:38  Updated 07 Apr 2016 23:25

SINGAPORE: To combat the “clear and present threat” of terrorism, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will bolster its counter-terrorism measures in the areas of incident response, training and equipping of soldiers, and continuing to invest in defence expenditure.

“As of now, there is no specific intelligence of any imminent plot against Singapore, but the general assessment by our intelligence agencies indicate that almost all cities are likely targets, including Singapore,” said Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen on Thursday (Apr 7), the second day of Committee of Supply debates in Parliament.

ISIS is the greatest threat to Singapore, and the city-state is an “attractive target” for the militant extremist group, Dr Ng said, reminding the House that it was only last year that the group identified Singapore as an enemy, and called on its followers to wage jihad here.

“Every shopping mall, every crowded place is an opportunity for violent extremists, for whom innocent civilians can be targeted. MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) has stepped up security checks but the terrorists only need to succeed once,” he said.

“Under these circumstances, can Singapore guarantee its residents that no extremist attack will occur? We must step up our defences, and more importantly confront this threat and prepare to deal with the aftermath together."

He also noted that Singapore, as an open economy connected to the world, is “particularly susceptible” to hybrid threats of long-term civil, economic, social, psychological and military nature.

FIRST RESPONDERS

The SAF will continue to collaborate closely with the Home Team on counter-terrorism efforts, and the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) is currently reviewing and working to enhance joint incident response plans, revealed Dr Ng.

He said the SAF’s Special Operations Task Force (SOTF) - first responders in counter-terrorism efforts on land – must have the capability to respond “even faster” when activated, and have the means to neutralise armed attackers on top of hostage rescue.

“The SAF is working with our defence engineers and scientists to equip these forces with better tactical sensors like micro-UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) small enough to fit in your palm and well-suited for urban terrains,” said Dr Ng. “We will continue to develop new technologies and tools that will give the SAF forces an edge in the fight against terror.”

TRAINING, EQUIPPING SOLDIERS

More SAF units will also be trained to face a wide range of security tasks such as conducting deterrence patrols in populous areas, said Dr Ng.

“We do not assume that attacks will only be carried out by lone-wolves or smaller groups as those which occurred in Jakarta,” he explained. “We must be able to deal with orchestrated attacks, like those which occurred in Paris and Brussels too, where airports, MRT stations, shopping malls and town centres are targeted simultaneously.”

Deployed response units will be better equipped to perform their tasks with added mobility, protection and precision in the form of firepower like the Peacekeeper Protected Response Vehicle (PRV) which was commissioned last year.

To prepare soldiers to competently undertake counter-terrorism missions, the SAF will also build a new realistic high-density urban training facility in Lim Chu Kang, with features such as high-rise buildings, transport nodes and complex road networks, announced Dr Ng.

DEFENCE INVESTMENTS

MINDEF will also continue to “invest wisely and spend prudently” on defence, said Dr Ng.

“Singapore too could have gone down the path of European countries to reap our own ‘peace dividend’ when the threat of communism waned and ASEAN progressed. Instead, we avoided spikes or dips in our defence spending to maintain a strong SAF,” he noted.

“Even as our population ages and social spending increases, we must maintain steady defence spending. That is the most effective way to stretch each defence dollar, as it allows us to plan for the long-term. It allows us to avoid disruptive changes from fluctuating expenditures year-to-year.”

Added Dr Ng: “For MINDEF, we buy only what the SAF needs and after a robust and stringent evaluation process. We adopt the most cost-effective solution. Our preference is to upgrade existing platforms, and only buy new equipment when absolutely required.”

Singapore’s defence expenditure has roughly kept pace wìth inflation, growing by about four per cent annually in nominal terms over the past decade, and is expected to maintain the same trajectory in the longer term, he said.

Dr Ng then provided the House with an update on the SAF’s assets.

This year, the army will launch a new suite of Protected Combat Support Vehicles to replace current non-armoured wheeled platforms for combat service support functions.

The navy is acquiring eight Littoral Mission Vessels (LMVs) to replace its long-serving Patrol Vessels, with the first LMV launched in July last year and expected to be operational by early 2017. Two new Type 218SG submarines are on track to replace the ageing Challenger-class submarines and should be commissioned in 2020.

The airforce’s aging Super Pumas and older CH-47 Chinook helicopters will also be replaced, with MINDEF finalising evaluations and expected to announce its new helicopters soon. Its F-16s will also be upgraded with more advanced Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars and air-to ground weapons.

Overall, the SAF will seek to deploy more unmanned platforms, beyond UAVs, so that manpower resources can be freed up for other missions, said Dr Ng.

The SAF will also invest more in cyber defence, he added, by doubling the headcount of the Cyber Defence Operations Hub (CDOH) by 2020. “We expect to use more artificial intelligence and big data analytics to better detect and respond to cyber threats,” said Dr Ng.

“The SAF will work closely with the national Cyber Security Agency (CSA) on this front.”

“DEFENDING SINGAPORE WITH THEIR LIVES”

Dr Ng concluded that the security challenges faced by Singapore “bring home the truth that each generation of Singaporeans will have to renew their commitment to protect what they value here or lose it”.

“Just as damaging as physical harm, extremists can sow mistrust between Singaporeans and weaken our social cohesion,” he added. “The crucial question is: After an extremist attack, will it splinter our society? Will it paralyse Singaporeans and sow discord through fear?”

Reiterating the SAF’s core value of soldiers pledging to defend Singapore with their lives, Dr Ng said: “SAF commanders and soldiers must put Singapore and Singaporeans first, above their own well-being, whether in training or operations.”

“In this troubled peace, SAF will train hard, prepare well and continually adapt to protect Singapore. With Singaporeans strongly behind and with us, the SAF will respond decisively to all those who seek to do us harm and protect this precious island we call home.”
