2015 in reflection ... Welcome 2016!

By Chee Hong Tat, Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Health
31 Dec 2015

As a young civil servant, I came across a fascinating speech which the late Dr Goh Keng Swee delivered at a seminar for pre-university students in April 1971, entitled “Government and Society”. It left a deep impression on me.

Dr Goh explained to his audience why politics was of direct and practical relevance to them. For a small country with no natural resources, the type of government elected to power “is probably the most important single determinant of whether the country prospers or declines”.

From left: Dr Goh Keng Swee with Mr Toh Chin Chye and Mr Lee Kuan Yew

Mr Goh Keng Swee also shared the following thoughts in his speech:

“What is needed is an influential and cohesive social class that will ensure a high standard of performance among political parties contending for support among the electorate.
That kind of political climate can be produced only if the great majority of those who have received higher education take a personal interest in the affairs of the country, make an effort to understand these issues, and are willing to provide leadership in the formation of public opinion.
Only under such circumstances can a democratic society ensure high standards of government, irrespective of which contending parties win the general elections and form the government of the day. When we achieve this in Singapore, we would have achieved long-term political stability.”

“Why do I emphasize the need to talk and think about relevant and practical matters?
I believe that if intelligent and informed people apply their minds to the real problems and actual difficulties facing Singapore, they will reach a large measure of agreement on what should be done.
They may differ about how to do it, and honest differences of opinion will emerge and will give rise to public debate.
However, when people talk about ideas, values and ideals which are trivial and irrelevant to our situation, what you get is not consensus but a babel of noises, a lot of posturing, a habit of opposition for the sake of opposing – in other words, a lot of hot air generated by chatterboxes.
Some people in Singapore labour under the illusion that this is democracy. The experience in Asian states where such practice flourishes shows that democracy dies quickly when the educated dissipate their energies this way
It is your responsibility and it is in your interest when you grow up to see that this does not happen in Singapore.”
Goh Keng Swee (1971)

I am reminded of what Dr Goh said when I recently read a Channel NewsAsia Singapore report on Taiwan’s economy. The article described how young Taiwanese graduates are facing difficulties in getting good jobs in a recession-hit economy, exacerbated by an ageing population due to Taiwan having one of the lowest fertility rates in the world.

According to the CNA report, “As more of today’s youth transfer the burden of caring for their parents to the state, government resources are getting stretched to breaking point amid spiraling health-insurance and pension costs.” The Taiwanese government is aware of these problems but their political situation makes it very difficult for any government, whether blue or green, to plan long-term and implement effective measures.

Taiwan has a population of more than 23 million, with many smart and talented people who have excelled in varied fields such as science, business and the arts. Some of the brightest engineers in the US are Taiwanese, including a few of my Professors at UC Berkeley. It is a pity that Taiwan’s economy and society are dragged down by their style of politics and the counter-productive role of their so-called free media.

Like Taiwan, #Singapore faces an ageing population and a maturing economy that we need to re-energise and rejuvenate. These are important issues which we must successfully tackle over the next few years. So will we end up like Taiwan?

Looking at our recent elections and reflecting on what Dr Goh said in 1971, I am confident that Singapore will do better. We may have similar challenges but our paths and destiny will differ, because our political systems and our electorates are different.

We are a problem-solving democracy focused on real problems and actual difficulties facing our country. Our voters are sensible and discerning in assessing the performance of political parties, both the ruling party and opposition.

Hence, as long as we stay united and cohesive as one people, I have no doubts that Singapore will overcome our challenges at this critical juncture of our history and we will emerge even stronger than before. #MajulahSingapura and Happy New Year!

[Defending the Lion City] The Singapore Armed Forces in 2015

SAF in 2015 – Proud of their achievements

By Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Defence
30 Dec 2015 (via Facebook)

As Minister, I believe that it is better for others and the public, rather than myself, to praise the SAF for their efforts – it’s more authentic and less self-serving. But 2015 was an exceptional year with many challenges for the SAF. Through it all, the SAF performed very well and I am very proud of the men and women who served.

SG50 called for high-impact events such as the Republic of Singapore Air Force's aerial display at the Marina Bay area over the Jubilee Weekend and NDP 2015 – the biggest ever staged which brought generations of Singaporeans together. There were also unexpected events which the SAF had to respond to – the most significant was the passing of our founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, for which the SAF took charge of the week of national mourning. Our servicemen and women in uniform gave of their best and went beyond the call of duty in performing their duties through tears and pouring rain, at the vigils and funeral service, handling hundreds of thousands of mourners at "Camp Padang", the 21-gun salute, the fly- and sail-pasts, and keeping Singaporeans safe at the event – my heart swelled with pride.

On top of this, the SAF had to respond to the Nepal earthquake and the burning peatlands in Indonesia. Early this year, the SAF also had to help search for, and it eventually did locate, the missing AirAsia flight QZ8501 on 14 Jan in the Java Sea. Through it all, we continued to train hard and keep up the tempo of our usual activities.

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the men and women of the SAF who gave of their best this SAF50 year and achieved all that was expected of us. Well done!

Here’s a short video of the MINDEF/SAF highlights of 2015.

Workers Party MPs start to show their true colors

FLOP:
"Silly? Unreasonable? New WP proxy, The Independent quoted this “silly complaint” from the video that was shared to Fabrications About The PAP, “Had complained to the Aljunied town council yesterday (24 Dec) and today (25 Dec) but nothing was done.

Look! It’s so dark and it’s the basketball court located at Blk 135 Serangoon North Ave 2 plus the garden, barbecue pit surrounding it all in total darkness. Isn’t it dangerous?”

Doesn‘t that affect the residents and compromise their safety?"

===============================

Singapore Matters:
"The Independent, proxy of Workers' Party, has described a resident's repeated complaint to Aljunied-Hougang Town council on the darkness at the basketball court at Blk 135 Serangoon North Ave 2 plus the garden and barbecue pit surrounding it as a SILLY AND UNREASONABLE complaint.

Since when has RESIDENTS' SAFETY become SILLY AND UNREASONABLE?

The Independent also tells us that the WP MPs for Aljunied GRC IGNORED THE COMPLAINT as they went about spreading Christmas cheer.

Oh wow! WP MPs ignored the complaint.

Note: Leon Perera of Workers' Party is one of the founders of The Independent."

===============================

Fabrications About The PAP:
"The address was given, if you have investigated and found it to be not true, say so.

But The Independent, The Workers' Party proxy founded by WP's Leon Perera, made no mention of any investigation made, it simply brushed the complaint aside as "silly and unreasonable" that WP MPs have ignored."

===============================

Leon Perera --> Workers' Party
Kumaran Pillai --> Ex-SDP Member & ex-TOC Chief Editor

Alfred Dodwell --> Lawyer who defended Amos Yee for free

Is The Independent really INDEPENDENT?

Or are they beholden to defend and advance the Workers' Party agenda?

In my view, they are more likely a disguised proxy of the Workers Party.

The Marketing Genius that is the Workers Party

hahaha..... aiyoh... WP, liddat also can ah?

How do you even "Freshly Launch" a Tree-Planting activity that was first started by Lee Kuan Yew way back in 1963?

From Straits Times:
"Mr Lee envisioned that a clean and green Singapore would carry a competitive advantage. He started the tree-planting campaign by planting a mempat tree in Farrer Circus in June 1963."

Oh, and by the way, ANYONE can plant a tree. We don't need to wait for WP to "Freshly Launch" this.

"In 2007, a Plant-A-Tree programme was started by the Singapore Environment Council (SEC) and the Garden City Fund. According to a media release on the National Parks Board website, the programme was started in response to tree planting requests from the public to the SEC. The programme enables individuals to plant one or more trees at designated parks or nature reserves on the last Sunday of each month or on special days like the World Environment Day or Earth Day."

Alex Tan plans to flood the Internet with more crap

Posted 28 Dec'15, 6.17pm

Really? Yet another crappy site?  And Alex Tan Zhixiang wants "to take out the credibility of government sources"?

hahaha.....he must be really desperate to do this.  The Ad revenue from his bullshit STR site must be really pathetic. Alex must be thinking he can make more money by continuing to generate the bullshit that Roy once did with his own blog of senseless Charts, Tables and Rambles.

A leopard doesn't change its spots. Even SDP's Chee Soon Juan said, "Character is permanent". So let's recap what Alex Tan Zhixiang has said publicly in the past.

Misrepresents & twists the truth

Creates fake profiles to boost numbers

Believes in readership over credibility

Can't even keep his own promises

Motivated by Money. Not for love of country

And here, he show us what his character is truly like - Deceitful

How can any sane and reasonable person believe him?

Worker's Party Bernard Chen flips and flops faster than Prata man!

Wah, this Bernard Chen Jiaxi from WP can really flip and flop around really fast - even better than a Prata man can.

One day (26 Dec'15) - he whines and complains that it is unfair that HDB officer follows the PAP candidate around, and not the elected WP-MP. Oh, and he also wants one to follow him.

The very next day (27 Dec'15)  - he wants to "... salute the professionalism of our public officers and civil servants..." and then goes on to imply that PAP really tekan taxing our poor front-line Officers for these PAP walk-abouts and depriving them of "... quality family time and their leisure and rest..."

Oh, and by saying "...instead of politics, let's look at the issue from another perspective....", Bernard has also let slip that his initial post on 26 Dec'15 was really an attempt to play up the politics of the situation and point fingers in an attempt to imply a lapse in protocol.

Bernard: "...See see... an unelected candidate can make HDB officer follow him around leh...."

Bernard had probably soon realised that he was inadvertently suggesting that WP's elected MP Md Faisal did not and/or could not and/or will not request for the same assistance from HDB for whatever their reasons. ie: An Ineffective MP

And he goes on to do damage-control by suggesting that WP's way of doing things (ie: ".. take down the feedback of residents himself and write in to the relevant agencies on the next work day") for years, has been effective and does not have a reason to change.

I wonder if their residents actually feel the same. Maybe that's why we are hearing more and more grouses from WP constituencies.

Anyway, so do tell us Bernard, what then is your actual position on the issue (of having a govt agency staff follow the MPs of any party on their walk-abouts in their constituency)?

Do you think it's a good thing or a bad thing? Are you able to clarify your position and the WP's position on this practice?

Or are you going to learn from your big boss and say "... neither did I say the Good Ting or the Bad Ting..."??

Meh...so much for the vaulted blue hammer that wants to be the co-driver, checker, empower your future  blah blah blah...

In reality, it is an broken hammer without any principles and is unable and/or unwilling to take a principled and definitive stand on any issue, except to bend towards wherever popular sentiment seems to be heading.

"We have no stand b'cos we neither said the Good Ting or Bad Ting".

Supporters of Amos the Banana-Boy - "No Sound, No Picture??"

Amos says that he is playing hide and seek with on the run from the police.

But strangely enough, all the usual anti-government / anti-PAP groups and personalities are really quiet where Amos is concerned.

Has anyone wondered what happened to all of Amos Yee's ardent supporters?

Earlier in July 2015, they were all out in full of force, showing their support for Amos, to the extent of holding a candlelight vigil for him, and even travelling all the way to Hong Kong to drum up support for Amos.

Seems to me (at least via their respective FB timelines & websites as of 28 Dec 2015) that they have stopped posting any news of Amos, including banana-boy's latest antic of being a "fugitive of the law".

As they say in hokkien, "Bo Xai, Bo Se" (literally translated "No Sound No Picture").

(1) Kenneth Jeyaretnam, Secretary-General of the Reform Party

Kenneth Jeyaretnam, had very strong words of support for Amos in June 2015 - calling him "Singapore's Youngest Political Prisoner". He even posted a picture of himself with duct-tape over his mouth and holding a 'FreeAmos' placard.  LOL   A quick scan of his FB page shows no mention of Amos since Sept 2015.

(2) Roy Ngerng Yi Ling (2015 Reform Party Candidate; YMCA Event 2014 Heckler)

Roy "ReturnOurCPF" Ngerng has nothing on his FB timeline about Amos since Sept 2015 too. His infamous blog of Charts, Tables and excessive dribble has nothing new since Sept too.

Gasp! Has Roy, who onced called Amos "Teacher", deserted Amos and left him to his fate? Well, maybe he's busy trying to think of ways to milk the situation get more money so that he can help himself Amos?

Roy (33yr) regards Amos (17yr) as a "Teacher" Ho Say Bo?

(3) Jolovan Wham

How about Jolovan Wham - supporter of anything and everything related to "Freedom of Speech"? Nope, his FB timeline is also zero.

Even the "CAN" FB page, which describes itself as ".... a group of individuals and activists concerned about freedom of expression in Singapore. We came together because of A Yee.", hasn't even a squeak about Amos since August 2015.

Maybe Jolovan is really busy with other more ego-stroking important stuff and overlooked Amos....

(4) Amos's International Supporters (lead by Goh Meng Seng & Han Hui Hui)

Nope... we haven't seen a repeat of the Hong Kong Protesters yet, or Taiwan or Malaysia or China.

Even Goh Meng Seng and Han Hui Hui's respective FB pages have no recent mention of Amos.

Maybe the HK protesters are waiting for Goh Meng Seng and Han Hui Hui to go and pay lead them in yet another protest.

(5) MARUAH
The president of Maruah, a Human Rights NGO in Singapore, had rambled on spoken for almost 20mins at the Free Amos Yee Rally on 5 July 2015.

But the Maruah FB page has nothing recent on Amos too.

Looks like Maruah is more interested in getting more attention speaking up at some human-rights festival conference in Geneva. Hang on... isn't that the perfect opportunity to get some international media attention for Amos's current plight? How come no mention at all leh? Why Maruah? Why? We thought you cared.

Maybe the harsh reality is this: That they have all come to realise Amos has got nothing to do with "freedom of speech" as what they love to champion. Amos has been using them all along to boost his attention-seeking ego.

And this also goes to show how "principled"our irritating beloved freedom champions are: If you are of no use to advancing their agenda, you are quickly kicked aside and forgotten.

PS: Yeah I know I said I won't post any more about Amos, unless he did something really stupid unusual... but then again, this post isn't entirely about Amos.   :D

Foreign Workers Get Sent More Chicken Rice Packets Thanks to Facebook Comments

By Pinky Chng, Wednesday, 23 December 2015, TSL Magazine

It’s not everyday that you’re offered free food while you’re just walking along the street, but for some foreign workers, last weekend was one such day.

Earlier this month, Select and Stamford Catering visited a workers’ dormitory in Kranji to give away 500 packets of Chicken Rice to foreign workers. Last Sunday afternoon, they took to the streets of Little India, again to give out packets of chicken rice to foreign workers, but this time with an added element of surprise.

Following the previous giveaway, Stamford Catering urged online users to leave comments of goodwill to thank foreign workers for their oftentimes unrecognised contribution to Singapore.

The response from members of the public was overwhelming, and the campaign garnered over 2,000 comments in the space of two weeks. To relay these well-wishes to the foreign workers, each packet of food distributed on Sunday had an individual message printed on the lid for an added personal touch.

PP: Two thumbs up for Select and Stamford Catering!  This is a really good initiative. The younger generation needs to learn to be appreciative of all types of workers  - especially those who willingly do the work that most Singaporeans shunt.

Workers Party's Bernard Chen Jiaxi tries yet again to claim credit

Shut Down TRS:
WP's Bernard Chen Jiaxi, can you be anymore shameless? Claiming credit from Tin Pei Ling? Why is it always so typical of WP to claim credit for the job done by PAP?

Singapore Matters:
Cock-a-doodle-do!

There goes Bernard Chen Jiaxi of Workers' Party taking credit for something in which he played no part.

The walkway was completed WEEKS AGO. MP Tin Pei Ling first post about the walkway in May 2015.
There was a statutory requirement for a power grid test and Ms Tin had been actively following up with LTA on this for the past WEEKS.

Don't you just hate it when you have been working hard to get something done and someone just come along and take credit for it when all the work has been done?

========================

PP's Notes:
Bernard Chen Jiaxi, WP's candidate for MacPherson SMC in GE2015, is no stranger to trying to create a false impression for his supporters via Facebook.

He was previously caught trying to impress the public that he had visited a charity organization to show his appreciation for their kind contributions to the community when he didn't. This lie was exposed by the charity themselves.

Alex Tan tries to spoil S'poreans' Christmas shopping

Alex Tan Zhixiang, Chief Editor of States Times Review, irresponsibly tries to spoil Singaporeans' day out at Orchard Road by lying that there was a flood on Christmas Eve 2015. He took advantage of the fact that there were already heavy showers forecast due to the monsoons.

He stole the picture of a previous flooding at Orchard road in 2010 when there was a severe downpour, from someone else's old blog post.

Unfortunately for Alex, his lie was very quickly exposed by people who were at Orchard road at the time, as well as eagle-eye netizens who spotted the YOG Countdown tower in front of Ion.

So now, having being caught out plainly creating fake news, he pretends that he was deceived by a reader's contribution. How convenient.

Remember, Alex professed a long time ago that he doesn't believe in being credible. He places "readership over credibility."

Have you been tricked by Alex Tan & his bullshit 'States Times Review' today?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Update:
hahahhahaa... looks like Goh Meng Seng, Secretary-General of the People's Power Party (PPP), also shared the same picture on his FB timeline (on 24 Dec 2015, 3.35pm). Best part? All his supporters seem to believe him whole-heartedly without even checking the facts.

Alex Tan makes us all LOL!

hahahahahhahahahahahahahahah....

It never fails to amuse me to see how much bullshit that Alex Tan Zhixiang can think of write generate shit out.

In his latest series of holiday season jokes, he says that "... there isn't any money to be made from managing a website, you get by with only S$2000/mth on average and this is insufficient for you to survive...".
Wah... S$2000 per month leh

And that's literally for doing nothing more than copy/pasting news articles from Straits Times, CNA etc, making up fake stories based on nothing more than a photo, inventing "reader submissions" and and then putting his golden bullshit spin on it and calling it "Quality independent credible journalism."   - Puke!

I never knew bullshitting provides such a good income.

Oh, and he says it's not enough to survive on.

Wait,.. didn't he say before that in Australia, everything is so cheap compared to Singapore?

He then claims that he "don't trust" the other media websites in Singapore and implies that because these websites are "most probably paid by someone else".... "which is none other than the Singapore Government."

Editors of A.S.S are paid by the Singapore Government??  Really? Is that even remotely logical? Do you pay someone to smear you with half-baked lies and malicious rumours? In any case, there's little verifiable information about who the owners of A.S.S are.

Mothership - again, little verifiable information about who the owners are.

As for the Independent.Sg, it was established by: (1)Workers' Party Leon Perera, NCMP (2) Ex-SDP Member & ex-TOC Chief Editor Kumaran Pillai, (3) Alfred Dodwell (Amos's free Lawyer) and (4) PN Balji.

TMG is operated by Bertha Henson and Daniel Yap.

It's a bit of a risk to say but I think it quite apparent that none of these sites have anything to do with the government directly.

And in reality, do you think a govt-funded website would be so slickly designed? Haven't you seen or used any of the gov.sg websites? Functional - yes. Informative - yes.  Creative and hip design website - NO WAY.

It would seem that Alex Tan is implying that there is a conspiracy hidden here somewhere.

But then again, if you recall what he had said previously and you then realise the reason why he is trying to discredit the other sites.

All that bullshit about passion / hobby etc is just a smoke-screen to make himself look like such a self-sacrificing (zero) hero.

But in reality, it would seem that Alex Tan's latest bullshit website is NOT making him ENOUGH MONEY - only S$2000 per month.

If he was writing all these bullshit out of "passion" / "love for Singapore", and that he did not care for the click-ad income from his site, then I would challenge him to remove all the ad spaces.  Will Alex Tan do that? hahaha... maybe when Alex Tan runs out of bullshit to write.

So it's time for Alex Tan to attack the other sites which have been drawing away his web traffic. Otherwise how will he ever afford a house in Sydney like his fellow TRS buddies did in Brisbane?

hahahahaha.......

Editors of The Real Singapore - Ai Takagi and Robin Yang allegedly owns a $377K apartment in Brisbane.

Either Alex is a barefaced liar, or he can't read english for nuts

Alex must be smoking something really powerful downunder...either that or he must have failed his english reading comprehension.

This is what was quoted by Channel News Asia on 17 Dec 2015 about the Judgement.

"While the cases indicate that the damages awarded to Prime Ministers who have been defamed have been substantial, some in excess of S$300,000, none of them involved a defendant of modest standing. The comparatively low standing of the defendant warranted a substantial reduction" - Justice Lee Seiu Kin

The judge went on to say:

However the popularity of Ngerng's blog and his "portrayal of himself as the voice of truth were not indicative of his standing amongst Singaporeans"There was "no evidence of his perceived credibility or the influence he actually wielded," hence his standing warranted a lower award of damages, said the judge.

The word "Standing" here as used by the Judge is in reference to the person's reputation, influence or position, and NOT in reference to how wealthy/poor the person is.  Besides, a poor person can still be immensely influential - like Mother Teresa.

"Low Standing" --> As much as Roy thinks he's some significant, voice of truth influential person in Singapore, the Judge actually doesn't see him that way. Justice Lee illustrated this point by drawing this comparison:

"The words of a dishevelled tramp in a street corner would be far less capable of causing damage than that of the CEO of a multi-national company."

(Ouch! That must have really hurt Roy's ego. heheee...)

So, which part of the Judgement said or implied anything about "poor people" better know their "social standing" before "criticizing"?

If anything, the Judge's opinion that Roy is in reality a insignificant bugger blogger , actually saved Roy from the prospect of heftier damages.

As usual, Alex Tan Zhixiang has yet again demonstrated his amazing propensity to lie ability to butcher the english language into something else to serve his devious agenda.

Don't take my work for it. Read the Judgement yourself for much more juicy details of what the Judge thought of the case.

Download the Judgement here. (Original source: Singapore Law Watch - [2015]SGHC 320)

Here are some extracts:

"Because damages in defamation are for injury to reputation, it is quite evident that the standing of the defamer is relevant to the degree of injury. In my view, there is a continuum of damages that is commensurate with the standing, or lack of it, of the defamer. The words of a dishevelled tramp in a street corner would be far less capable of causing damage than that of the CEO of a multi-national company." Page 26, Para 39

"He also points to the defendant’s portrayal of himself as the voice of truth, and that the defendant had considered himself to have a significant standing amongst Singaporeans. I accept that the defendant had made many representations in the Blog to that effect. But there is nothing to show that he had in fact enjoyed such standing – there is no evidence of his perceived credibility or the influence he actually wielded." Page 27, Para 42

"In the present case, I am of the view that a substantial reduction would be appropriate in the circumstances of the case, primarily in view of the comparatively low standing of the defendant." Page 71, Para 116

Blogger Roy Ngerng ordered to pay PM Lee S$150,000 in damages
"The comparatively low standing of the defendant warranted a substantial reduction" in the award of damages, said the judge.

By Vanessa Paige Chelvan, CNA, Posted 17 Dec 2015 17:27 Updated 17 Dec 2015 22:45

SINGAPORE: The Supreme Court on Thursday (Dec 17) ordered blogger Roy Ngerng to pay S$150,000 in damages to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong for defamation. This comprises S$100,000 in general damages and S$50,000 in aggravated damages.

"While the cases indicate that the damages awarded to Prime Ministers who have been defamed have been substantial, some in excess of S$300,000, none of them involved a defendant of modest standing. The comparatively low standing of the defendant warranted a substantial reduction," a judgement from Justice Lee Seiu Kin stated.

The 34-year-old Ngerng, a former healthcare programme coordinator at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, had written a blogpost in May 2014 allegedly comparing the Government's usage of CPF monies to the City Harvest Church leaders' alleged misuse of church funds. In his blog, he charged that the Government did so via the Government’s investment arms, Temasek Holdings and GIC.

The blogger was ordered by the court to no longer publish any assertions that Mr Lee was misappropriating CPF monies. He was also ordered to pay Mr Lee S$29,000 for legal fees and related expenses that were borne leading up to the application for the summary judgment.

ALLEGATIONS "SEVERELY UNDERMINED CREDIBILITY OF TARGET"

The judge held that allegations of corrupt and criminal conduct could have severe repercussions, especially if levelled against the leader of a country. "In the present case, the allegations that the plaintiff had criminally misappropriated monies paid by citizens to a state-administered pension fund was one of the gravest that could be made against any individual, let alone a head of Government. It struck at the heart of one’s personal integrity and severely undermined the credibility of the target, and was a grave defamation that a fair-minded person would react with indignation," the judgement read.

"Public leaders in Singapore hold positions of trust and confidence and their reputations are vital to their ability to lead and to be given the mandate to govern", Justice Lee added.

Justice Lee noted that while Ngerng had apologised to Prime Minister Lee, it could be concluded from articles and emails he wrote after that he was "not contrite". For instance, he sent emails regarding the takedown of his blogpost to journalists. He also published a Letter of Demand sent to him - a move that was "aggravating" in serving to increase the reach of his defamatory material and the likelihood of its publication.

NGERNG "NOT CONTRITE" AFTER APOLOGY

The judge also concluded that the defendant's conduct was "malicious" as Ngerng knew his blogpost claims were false and injurious to Mr Lee, but still published it. "It was likely that the defendant had cynically defamed the plaintiff in order to increase viewership of the blog," the judgement read. Blog statistics show the article was seen by at least 37,223 individuals.

However the popularity of Ngerng's blog and his "portrayal of himself as the voice of truth were not indicative of his standing amongst Singaporeans". There was "no evidence of his perceived credibility or the influence he actually wielded," hence his standing warranted a lower award of damages, said the judge.

Justice Lee illustrated this point by drawing this comparison: "The words of a dishevelled tramp in a street corner would be far less capable of causing damage than that of the CEO of a multi-national company."

In July, Prime Minister Lee himself took the stand for about six hours for the hearing. His lawyers asked for "a very high award of damages", citing "malice and continuing attacks" by the blogger on Mr Lee. The court also heard that Mr Ngerng had offered to settle the damages for a sum of S$10,000 but this was rejected by PM Lee as "derisory".

Ngerng had previously argued that the award of “extravagant damages” sends the signal to other Singaporeans that they will “have to ‘self-censor and keep their thoughts to themselves’”. But this is not true, Justice Lee said.

The blogger “has not been prevented from speaking on the purported mismanagement of the CPF monies, nor has he been prevented from criticising (Prime Minister Lee) or any other politician”. In fact, Ngerng has published multiple articles critical of Government policies, Justice Lee noted.

In response to media queries, the press secretary to Prime Minister Lee said he accepts the judgement and award of the court.

Ngerng wrote in a Facebook post that he is discussing next steps with his lawyer, but added: "I have put the case behind me and am trying to move on with my life."

Roy gets new excuse for fund-raising again

So, we hear today that Roy was ordered to pay PM Lee Hsien Loong $150,000 for defamation.

Hmmm.... I wonder what's going through Roy's mind.

Not enough? Too much? Free $$$ time? Oppressed? No freedom of speech? No CPF? Return my CPF?

meh.. who really cares?

Some dumb good people have too much money to spare sacrifice their hard-earn cash to support our looney MP-wannabes potential MPs  .

After all, if not for them, Singapore wouldn't have much political comedy drama and anyone to disturb our peace fight for our freedoms.

So remember to donate all you can afford for this stupid liar of a con-man great and worthwhile cause

hahaha.. this is solid gold.

Roy has to ".... work hard to be honest people".

hahahahahah..... A very good question.

Oh yeah.. please do. Alex, help Roy please. Get him outta this awful country. And while you are at it, help Amos too. Oh, and then there's Han Hui Hui also. Please help them all to leave Singapore.
